Biometrics for Law Enforcement

14 March, 2022

For over a century, biometric systems have assisted law enforcement efforts. From the early twentieth century when the anthropometry system was replaced with fingerprint identification in France until now, more biometric modalities have been considered and used by many governments across the globe to automatically and accurately identify suspicious individuals.

IriTech with its NIST’s IREX test top ranked iris recognition technology is proud to be one of reliable biometric providers for governments and their contractors. Particularly, one of the biggest US Government contractors Northrop Grumman has been providing BioSled handheld device to the FBI. It includes IriTech’s IriShield binocular iris scanner BO 2121 which is SAP 30 compliant and capable of capturing both irises simultaneously and Integrated Biometrics fingerprint scanner connected with a Samsung Galaxy S5 Android smartphone as following picture. Police officer carries this lightweight, low-cost device in a tactical environment scanning and matching crime suspects’ fingerprints and irises with the biometric database. The officer will know immediately if he or she is the one they’re looking for based on the offline matching result generated from the device.
