Indian state selects iris based identity management solution by IriTech

11 March, 2015

March 11, 2015 – Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh, India recently demonstrated IriTech`s iris based identity management solution at the launch event of the Indian state’s new facility for pension distribution.

Manufactured by U.S. based IriTech, the IriShield USB MK2120U is assembled to be marketed in India through its Indian partner, Biometronic Technology.

“The state’s decision to use iris technology as a primary method to issue Aadhaar verified direct benefit transfer will address concerns of total inclusiveness of its residence as well as providing a more accurate and a hygiene solution,” said Binod E. Mathai, director of Biometronic Technology. “Iris recognition is known to provide the highest level of accuracy among all biometric modalities and the rate of enrollment is higher compared to fingerprint as a larger population has worn and torn fingerprints than irises.”

IriShield USB MK2120U is the first iris authentication scanner to be STQC certified by the Indian government for its ongoing Aadhaar biometric ID system project, which is working toward registering all 1.2 billion Indian residents.

Additionally, IriShield USB MK2120U recently became the first iris product to be registered by the DGS&D (Department of Goods Supply and Disposal, Ministry of Commerce & Industry) to be delivered to key government departments and ministries.

“We are very proud and excited to be part of the implementation of iris technology on the national level,” said IriTech founder and CEO Daniel Daehoon Kim. “IriTech’s success in the Indian market is something we take with great pride. We are absolutely delighted to bring the world’s leading iris recognition technology to India and hope over time to demonstrate the value and versatility this technology offers.”

Previously reported, IriTech announced it developed a new technology that can accurately capture and process iris images under direct sunlight of over 100,000 lux.
